About the Bali 4.2
Bali is the Catana Group's charter-focused line, launched in 2014, and the boats do two things no other catamaran does. The first is the foredeck: instead of trampolines there is a solid deck with a forward cockpit on it. The second is the back of the saloon, which lifts like a garage door so that the saloon and the aft cockpit become a single room.
Put those together and you get a boat that works more like a house than a yacht. On a hot evening the whole aft end opens up. On a wet morning it closes and you are inside. The foredeck is a place you can walk on and lie on in bare feet without picking your way across netting.
The trade is honest and worth knowing: a solid foredeck is more weight and more surface at the front of the boat than trampolines. It is one reason these are comfortable charter boats rather than quick ones.
Who it suits
- Families with children
- A solid foredeck instead of trampolines is a meaningfully easier surface for children and anyone unsteady on their feet.
- Crews who will live outside
- The lifting aft bulkhead turns saloon and cockpit into one space. On a hot week that is the whole character of the boat.
- Less experienced sailors
- Simple to handle, forgiving under power, and laid out so nothing requires explaining twice.
- Less suited to crews chasing performance
- Weight forward and a lot of structure make this a comfortable cruiser rather than a fast one.
Layout & life aboard
- Solid foredeck with a forward cockpit
- Walkable, sunbathable, and dry — no netting to cross and nothing to drop through.
- The garage door
- The aft bulkhead of the saloon lifts up so that inside and outside become one room.
- It is the feature people remember. Check it opens and closes smoothly at handover.
- Galley and saloon on one level
- A big fridge and a proper worktop in the saloon rather than tucked down a hull.
- Light and air
- Sliding windows along the saloon mean the boat ventilates without air conditioning on most evenings.
Under sail
- Comfort over pace
- The structure that makes the boat liveable also makes it heavy. It is steady rather than quick.
- Reaching
- The angle where it is happiest — level, quiet and unbothered.
- Upwind
- Modest. Weight and windage forward do not help. Bear away and use the engines when the wind is on the nose.
- Under power
- Two engines set wide apart; it turns in its own length and berths easily for its size.
Worth knowing before you book
- Test the lifting bulkhead
- It is the boat's signature and a large moving part. Open and close it fully before you leave the dock.
- Windage forward
- A solid foredeck catches wind that a trampoline lets through, which you notice when turning in a breeze.
- Shade on the foredeck
- The forward cockpit is wonderful in the morning and brutal at midday unless there is a cover.
- Ask what shade is actually fitted forward.
- Catamaran berths in high season
- Fewer spaces, higher prices. Plan and book stops rather than arriving and hoping.

Frequently asked questions
For bareboat charter the skipper on board needs a recognised sailing license and, in most countries, a VHF certificate. If nobody in your group is licensed, book the yacht with a professional skipper.
Charter weeks normally run Saturday to Saturday, with check-in in the afternoon and check-out in the morning at the home base (Port of Volos).
Cross-border sailing is often possible with prior notice and additional paperwork. Ask us before booking so the operator can prepare the documents.
Fuel is normally paid on a tank-to-tank basis: you receive the yacht with a full tank and return it full.
