About the Bavaria Cruiser 41
The Cruiser 41 is the small end of the Farr-drawn Bavaria line, and it is the size that quietly suits most charter crews better than the boats they think they want. Three cabins, a cockpit you can actually sit in, and a hull that sails properly rather than simply carrying people.
Bavaria built this line around volume and value, and at the small end of it the compromise is sharpest: you get a boat with real headroom and usable cabins at a price and a berth size that keep the week affordable. What you give up is the long waterline that makes the bigger boats fast.
For a family or two couples who want to sail rather than motor, and who would rather spend the saving on a longer trip, this is a sensible rather than a glamorous choice — which is exactly why there are so many of them.
Who it suits
- A family or two couples
- Three cabins and enough saloon to eat inside when it rains, without paying for space nobody uses.
- Crews building confidence
- Manageable loads, predictable handling, and a length that fits almost any berth you will be offered.
- Budget-conscious weeks
- Charter price and berthing cost both scale with length. This size costs noticeably less for the week than its bigger sisters.
- Less suited to large groups
- Four cabins can be squeezed in, but the cockpit and heads are sized for the boat, not for eight adults.
Layout & life aboard
- Headroom for the length
- Bavaria's interior volume shows most at this size — it feels like a bigger boat below than it is on deck.
- Three cabins, usually two heads
- The standard charter arrangement, which is the right balance for six people.
- Four-cabin versions exist; confirm what you are booking.
- Twin wheels
- Two helms aft with the cockpit seating forward of them, which keeps the crew out of the working area.
- Simple and robust
- Nothing elaborate below. On a boat that has done many charter seasons, that is a feature rather than a shortcoming.
Under sail
- Farr hull
- Drawn by a racing office, so it holds an angle and accelerates rather than wallowing.
- Upwind
- Capable for a cruising 41-footer, particularly with the deeper keel.
- Short-handed friendly
- Sail area is proportioned so that two people can reef and tack without it becoming an event.
- Under power
- Single engine, saildrive, modest windage. One of the easier sizes to berth under pressure.
Worth knowing before you book
- Check the age and the sails
- This model has been in fleets a long time. The design has not dated; individual boats have.
- Confirm cabins and heads
- Three-cabin and four-cabin versions share the name and make very different weeks for six people.
- Shade
- Check a bimini is fitted, not just a sprayhood. It decides whether the cockpit is usable at midday.
- Prop walk
- Single screw. Find out which way the stern swings in open water on day one.

Frequently asked questions
For bareboat charter the skipper on board needs a recognised sailing license and, in most countries, a VHF certificate. If nobody in your group is licensed, book the yacht with a professional skipper.
Charter weeks normally run Saturday to Saturday, with check-in in the afternoon and check-out in the morning at the home base (D-Marin Dalmacija Marina).
Cross-border sailing is often possible with prior notice and additional paperwork. Ask us before booking so the operator can prepare the documents.
Fuel is normally paid on a tank-to-tank basis: you receive the yacht with a full tank and return it full.
