About this yacht
The Bavaria Cruiser 51 is a 2020 sailing yacht measuring 15.59 m with a 4.67 m beam and 2.25 m draft. With five cabins and space for 11 berths, it suits groups or families that need multiple private sleeping areas and a larger deck footprint for onboard movement. The hull and layout prioritize accommodation capacity over minimal draft or racing performance.
Boat equipment supports extended cruising and onboard comfort: chart plotter and radio-CD player for navigation and entertainment, cockpit cushions and speakers, sprayhood, dinghy and an inverter. A water maker is fitted for longer passages from the base in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy.

About the Bavaria Cruiser 51
The Cruiser 51 is the Bavaria you book when the group is too big for a 46 and a catamaran is out of budget or out of berths. Same thinking as the rest of the Farr-drawn Cruiser line — a real sailing hull with a lot of accommodation on top of it — scaled up to the point where five cabins become normal rather than cramped.
What changes at this length is not the character but the consequences. The boat sails faster and more comfortably, it holds its course better in a sea, and it takes a big crew without the saloon turning into a corridor. It also carries real loads in the rigging and needs genuine space to turn.
It is the most boat most charter crews will handle without a professional skipper, and it is worth being honest with yourself about which side of that line you are on.
Who it suits
- Groups of eight to ten
- Five-cabin layouts are common, which puts a large party on one hull without anyone sleeping in a converted saloon.
- Routes with real distance
- Waterline length is speed and comfort. For a week that crosses open water rather than hopping bays, the extra feet earn their keep.
- Experienced skippers
- Nothing about the boat is difficult, but everything about it is big — the loads, the momentum, the space you need to turn.
- Less suited to a first bareboat week
- A mistake on a 51-footer in a crowded harbour is a more expensive mistake. Build up to it.
Layout & life aboard
- Five cabins without the squeeze
- At this length the cabin count stops fighting the living space; the saloon still works with a full crew in it.
- Ask how many heads — that is what a group of ten actually notices.
- Long cockpit, twin wheels
- Enough cockpit for everyone to sit down at once, with the helms well aft and out of the seating area.
- Headroom and stowage
- Generous below even by Bavaria standards, with locker space that a ten-person crew will need.
- Bathing platform
- A wide transom platform between the helms, which is where the boat is lived in at anchor.
Under sail
- Farr hull, scaled up
- Tracks well, carries sail, and keeps driving through a sea rather than stopping and starting.
- Upwind
- Strong for a cruising boat. Length and a stiff hull mean the boat makes genuine progress to windward.
- Loads are real
- Mainsail and genoa on a 51-footer carry serious force. Winch handling is not casual work here.
- Confirm which winches are electric — it changes the week.
- Under power
- Single engine, long hull, substantial windage. A bow thruster, if fitted, is the difference between easy and interesting.
Worth knowing before you book
- Confirm the bow thruster works
- On a boat this long with one engine, it is the system you will miss most if it is not working.
- Test it at the dock with the base crew present.
- Count the heads
- Five cabins and too few heads is the most common complaint on charter boats of this size.
- Check the electric winches
- Hoisting this mainsail by hand on a hot afternoon is a job you only do once before regretting the booking.
- Berth availability and draft
- A 51-footer needs a longer berth and often a deeper one. In August both are scarce.
- Plan and reserve stops rather than arriving and hoping.

Frequently asked questions
For bareboat charter the skipper on board needs a recognised sailing license and, in most countries, a VHF certificate. If nobody in your group is licensed, book the yacht with a professional skipper.
Charter weeks normally run Saturday to Saturday, with check-in in the afternoon and check-out in the morning at the home base (Marina di Stabia).
Cross-border sailing is often possible with prior notice and additional paperwork. Ask us before booking so the operator can prepare the documents.
Fuel is normally paid on a tank-to-tank basis: you receive the yacht with a full tank and return it full.
