About the Lagoon 43
The 43 is the newest boat in the Lagoon range, launched at Cannes in 2024 and nominated for European Yacht of the Year the following season, and it is the one that breaks the family rules.
For nearly a decade the Lagoon signature was a mast set well aft with a small mainsail and a self-tacking jib. On the 43, VPLP moved the rig forward again, made the sail area significantly larger, and fitted an overlapping genoa as standard instead of the self-tacker. If you have chartered a 42 or a 46 and expect this to feel the same, it will not — there is more sail to handle and tacking now means working a sheet.
The hull changed as much as the rig. The forward sections are far broader above the waterline, which lets the charter version carry four equal double cabins instead of two good ones aft and two compromises forward. The freeboard aft has been cut down so you can step aboard from a quay rather than climbing.
Who it suits
- Groups where nobody should get the worse cabin
- The reason the hull was redrawn: four double cabins of genuinely similar size, rather than two good and two you apologise for.
- Crews who want to actually sail a catamaran
- More sail area and a proper overlapping genoa make this a livelier boat than the mast-aft Lagoons.
- Anyone who likes a current boat
- The newest hull in the range, so charter examples are recent and the equipment is current.
- Less suited to crews who wanted the self-tacking jib
- Tacking is no longer just turning the wheel. Somebody has to handle a sheet, and on a big genoa that is real work.
- If a gentle first multihull week is the goal, the 42 is the easier boat.
Layout & life aboard
- Four equal cabins
- Broader forward sections mean the forward berths are the same size as the aft ones.
- Semi-flybridge
- A raised helm to port with U-shaped seating and a sun lounge forward of it, and steps up again to a lounge on the upper deck.
- A middle ground between the coachroof helm of the 42 and the full flybridge of the 46.
- Lowered freeboard aft
- The topsides were cut down at the stern so you step aboard from a quay instead of climbing up to it.
- A small change that you notice every single time you come and go.
- Volume everywhere
- The redrawn hull puts noticeably more space below than the length suggests, particularly forward.
Under sail
- The rig moved forward
- Opposite of the mast-aft layout that defined the previous generation, with substantially more sail area.
- Overlapping genoa as standard
- Sheeted to tracks on the coachroof rather than self-tacking. More power, more to do when you tack.
- Light airs
- The extra sail area shows most here — the boat keeps moving in breezes where older Lagoons of this size would be motoring.
- Under power
- Twin engines far apart, as ever. Berthing is helped by the lower stern when it comes to stepping off.
Worth knowing before you book
- Brief the crew on the genoa
- If anyone aboard has chartered a mast-aft Lagoon they will expect tacking to be effortless. It is not on this boat.
- Agree who handles the sheets before the first tack, not during it.
- More sail means earlier reefing
- A larger sail plan on a cruising catamaran wants reducing sooner than crews expect in an afternoon breeze.
- Check the genoa furler at handover
- It is the sail you will use all week and the one with the most load on it.
- Catamaran berths in high season
- Unchanged from the rest of the type: fewer spaces, higher prices, booked early.

Frequently asked questions
For bareboat charter the skipper on board needs a recognised sailing license and, in most countries, a VHF certificate. If nobody in your group is licensed, book the yacht with a professional skipper.
Charter weeks normally run Saturday to Saturday, with check-in in the afternoon and check-out in the morning at the home base (Kos Port).
Cross-border sailing is often possible with prior notice and additional paperwork. Ask us before booking so the operator can prepare the documents.
Fuel is normally paid on a tank-to-tank basis: you receive the yacht with a full tank and return it full.
