About the Beneteau Oceanis 41.1

The 41.1 sits between generations, and that is the useful thing to know about it. It carries the chined hull that Beneteau introduced on the 41 and 45 — volume pushed outboard above the waterline, more form stability, wider cabins — and the deck and rig were brought up to date from there.

It is one of the most balanced boats Beneteau has built in this size: a fin keel with a bulb, a spade rudder, a sail plan proportioned to be worked by a small crew, and an ergonomic cockpit that does not feel like a compromise.

For a charter week it is the quiet competent choice. Nothing about it is dramatic. It sails well, berths easily, sleeps a family, and does not ask much of the person at the wheel.

Who it suits

A family or two couples
Three cabins in typical charter layout, with the chined hull giving the aft doubles real width.
Skippers building confidence
Loads are manageable, the boat is predictable, and nothing happens quickly. A good step up from a 36-footer.
Mixed weeks
Sails properly when there is wind, motors comfortably when there is not, and fits the berths you are likely to be given.
Less suited to crews wanting the newest boat
The 40.1 is the current equivalent. Charter 41.1s have usually done several seasons by now.
Often reflected in the price, which is the reason to choose one.

Layout & life aboard

Chined hull, wider berths
The aft cabins get the benefit of the hull flare, which is what separates this generation from the boats before it.
Twin wheels
Two helms aft with the mainsheet and controls arranged to be worked from the wheel.
Straightforward saloon
Galley along one side, dining to the other, with shelf space and wardrobes in the cabins rather than only under-berth stowage.
Cockpit ergonomics
The deck layout was the point of the update — seating, sheet leads and the companionway all work together better than on the boat it replaced.

Under sail

Fin keel with a bulb
Ballast carried low on a fin with a spade rudder gives a boat that grips and steers rather than sliding sideways.
Upwind
Good, within what you can expect from a cruising boat of this length. The hull stands up to its sail area.
Short-handed friendly
The sail plan is proportioned so that reefing and tacking do not need four people.
Under power
Single engine on a saildrive. Predictable, with modest windage for the length.

Worth knowing before you book

Ask the boat's age and sail condition
This model has been in fleets long enough that two boats with the same name can be in very different shape.
When were the sails last replaced is the single most revealing question.
Keel draft
As across the range, shallow and deeper versions exist and they open different anchorages.
Learn the prop walk
Single screw, so the stern walks one way astern. Find out which before you need to know.
Check the bimini
Shade over the cockpit is what decides whether the crew sits outside between noon and four.

Frequently asked questions

For bareboat charter the skipper on board needs a recognised sailing license and, in most countries, a VHF certificate. If nobody in your group is licensed, book the yacht with a professional skipper.

Charter weeks normally run Saturday to Saturday, with check-in in the afternoon and check-out in the morning at the home base (Nikiana Marina).

Cross-border sailing is often possible with prior notice and additional paperwork. Ask us before booking so the operator can prepare the documents.

Fuel is normally paid on a tank-to-tank basis: you receive the yacht with a full tank and return it full.
