About the Beneteau Oceanis 45
The Oceanis 45 belongs to the generation that introduced the chined hull at Beneteau, launched alongside the 41 in 2012. It was the boat that proved the idea: flare the topsides out above the waterline, gain interior volume and form stability at the same time, and give a cruising boat a shape borrowed from racing.
The rig sits in line with the keel, which spreads the sail area evenly along the hull and makes the boat easy to balance. It is a straightforward boat to sail — nothing clever, nothing demanding.
It has since been replaced by the 46.1, and that is worth knowing when you compare prices. A charter 45 today has done many seasons. The design has aged well; individual boats vary.
Who it suits
- Crews who want size for the money
- A 45-foot monohull with four cabins at a price the current generation does not reach.
- Families and mixed-ability groups
- Easy to balance, easy to steer, and forgiving if the trim is not perfect.
- Skippers who like a predictable boat
- The mast in line with the keel makes the helm neutral and the boat undemanding to keep on track.
- Less suited to crews who want current equipment
- Electronics, sails and upholstery on a boat of this age depend entirely on how the operator has looked after it.
- The 46.1 is the direct successor if that matters to you.
Layout & life aboard
- Island bed forward
- The forward cabin has a walk-around berth with shelf space and wardrobes rather than only under-berth lockers.
- Chined hull, usable aft cabins
- This generation was where Beneteau stopped making aft doubles you have to crawl into.
- Twin wheels and a large cockpit
- The cockpit is the boat's best space and was designed around a full crew sitting in it.
- Saloon on one level
- Galley and dining in a single bright space, with enough seating to eat inside when it rains.
Under sail
- Balanced rig
- Mast in line with the keel spreads the effort along the hull, which is why the boat tracks so easily.
- Upwind
- Decent rather than sharp. The chine gives stiffness; this is still a cruising boat with a cruising sail plan.
- Comfortable in a seaway
- Long waterline and an even sail plan give a steady motion rather than a quick one.
- Under power
- Single engine, saildrive, nothing unusual. Berthing is a matter of practice rather than skill.
Worth knowing before you book
- Condition varies more than the design does
- The hull and layout have aged well. Sails, canvas, electronics and the dinghy have not, unless someone replaced them.
- Ask directly when the sails were last changed.
- Check the bimini and sprayhood
- Canvas is the first thing to go on an older charter boat and the thing you use every single day.
- Keel draft
- Shallow and deep versions were both built; it decides which anchorages are open to you.
- Prop walk and a long hull
- A 45-footer backing into a tight Mediterranean berth needs a plan before you start, not during.

Frequently asked questions
For bareboat charter the skipper on board needs a recognised sailing license and, in most countries, a VHF certificate. If nobody in your group is licensed, book the yacht with a professional skipper.
Charter weeks normally run Saturday to Saturday, with check-in in the afternoon and check-out in the morning at the home base (Porto Mirabello).
Cross-border sailing is often possible with prior notice and additional paperwork. Ask us before booking so the operator can prepare the documents.
Fuel is normally paid on a tank-to-tank basis: you receive the yacht with a full tank and return it full.
