The park is paid
Buy the ticket online, in advance

Overnight mooring
Red buoys in about a dozen bays

Charged separately from the entry ticket, by season, boat size and number of nights. Free anchoring inside the park is restricted.

Worth the detour

Where to drop anchor in Kornati

  • 1

    The Kornat ridge

The long spine island that gives the group its name, running nearly 25 kilometres with dry-stone walls climbing straight over the hills. The landscape is man-made — centuries of sheep grazing stripped it to rock.

  • 2

    The crowns of Kornat

The cliffs on the outer, seaward side of the chain, dropping as much as 80 metres straight into the Adriatic. Nothing else in Croatia looks like them, and you only see them by sailing the outside.

  • 3

    Telašćica

A separate nature park immediately north on Dugi Otok: a long, deeply protected bay with a salt lake above it and cliffs on the ocean side. Charged separately from Kornati and worth its own day.

  • 4

    Levrnaka and Lojena

One of the few sand beaches in the whole archipelago, on the western side of Levrnaka. A buoyed bay and a short walk over to it.

  • 5

    Vruje and Opat

Two of the dozen mooring bays, at the southern end of Kornat. Konobas ashore and red buoys in the water — the standard overnight pattern here.

  • 6

    Žut and Sit

North of Kornat and outside the national park boundary, which makes them a cheaper night with much the same scenery. Marina Žut is the only real facility in the area.

  • 7

    Murter and Betina

The island closest to the archipelago and historically where its owners lived. Most of the Kornati land is still held by Murter families, which is why the konobas are there.

  • 8

    Skradin and the Krka falls

Inland from Šibenik up the Krka river — you can take the boat as far as Skradin and the waterfalls are a short trip beyond. An entirely different day from the bare islands.

Suggested routes

    The outer side of Kornat

From Šibenik — the park and the Krka

7 days

Pairs the bare islands with the river, which is the strongest contrast available in a Croatian week. Starts and ends through the Šibenik channel.

Back east through the Šibenik archipelago.

  7. 7

    Šibenik

In through the channel for handover.

Before you book

Local rules and paperwork in Kornati

Skipper certificate
Required, plus a VHF certificate. Croatia asks for a recognised sailing qualification and a VHF operator's certificate for bareboat charter, as across the country.
Kornati entry ticket
Buy online in advance. Advance 2026 prices start at roughly €25–45 for boats to 7 m from October to May and from about €45 from June to September, scaling with length. On-the-water purchase is considerably dearer, and registering the boat name online shortens the ranger check.
Telašćica is separate
A different park with its own ticket. It adjoins Kornati on Dugi Otok but is administered separately. Budget for both if the route includes both, which most routes do.
Mooring inside the park
Red buoys in about a dozen bays. Overnight mooring is charged on top of the entry ticket, by season, size and nights. Free anchoring is restricted — take a buoy where one is laid.
There is nothing ashore
Provision on the mainland. The archipelago has no towns, no shops and no fuel. Water and supplies are loaded at Biograd, Šibenik or Murter before you go in.
The bura
A north-easterly that arrives hard. Croatia's offshore wind can come up quickly and blows strongest in the channels. The Kornati bays are open to it in places, which is another reason the buoyed bays are the sensible overnight.

Checked October 2026. Rules change — confirm the detail that matters for your trip when you book.

About the destination

Why charter from Kornati

The Kornati archipelago is the densest cluster of islands in the Mediterranean, and most of it is a national park. Established in 1980, the park covers 89 islands, islets and reefs in a stretch of water between Zadar and Šibenik — bare limestone, almost no permanent population, and anchorages where the only thing ashore is a stone hut and a konoba that opens for the season.

The practical point to settle before you go is the ticket. Entry is charged, and buying online in advance is considerably cheaper than buying from a ranger on the water. For 2026 the advance prices start at roughly €25 to €45 for boats up to 7 metres in the low season from October to May, and from about €45 in the high season from June to September, rising with the length of the boat. Register the boat's name when you buy and the on-water check is usually brief, because rangers can see registered vessels in their system. Passing straight through without anchoring, swimming or staying the night is generally still free — the fee is for using the park, not crossing it.

Overnight mooring is possible in about a dozen bays, on floating moorings marked with red buoys, and that is charged separately according to season, boat size and nights.

The sailing around it is classic central Dalmatia: 945 boats, 562 of them monohulls, averaging 13.3 metres, based along the coast at Biograd, Šibenik, Primošten, Zadar and Rogoznica rather than inside the park itself. Weekly rates start around €884, the lowest in Croatia.
